2010 Revised State Clinic Schedule

Hi Judges,
Just a reminder of our state clinic June 4-6th at Northwest Aerials.

You have the opportunity to earn 20 CPE credits if you attend the entire weekend. One credit per hour. Download a new CPE sheet if your other form has been completed. The state clinic maybe used to complete last years CPE, next years or you may split the hours to complete last year and start next seasons.

You may register at the door if you have not done so.

The judging clinics start Friday at 1:30 PM. The first session's will be two fold: one for beginning judges and the other a roundtable for optional judges Level 8-10. The purpose of the optional roundtable is for judges to discuss routines and to come together as a state. It will also be an opportunity for optional judges testing later in the evening to have an opportunity to ask questions or just get warmed up for their practical. Laurie R. will head the roundtable.

Friday 7 PM Updated Judges Certification Timeline: 7:05 5/6 Written & 7/8 Written.
7:10: Lv. 9 Practical. 7:30 Lv. 10 Practical. 8:45: Lv. 9 Written. 8:50: 7/8 Practical.
Please be prompt and best wishes.

Some sessions have recently changed to meet different clinicians requests and to be in alignment with the USAG office request of topics not conflicting with national and regional congress.

If you have any questions, please drop me an e-mail.
Hope to see you in a few days.

Subj: Update
Hi Judges,
5/6 State this weekend and with that our season will officially come to a close. Thank you for your service throughout the year and your dedication to WA State Gymnastics.

Please note the following:
The state clinic information/schedule is coming out soon. Myra Elfenbein, RTC Region 8 will be our head clinician. Dates: June 4-6 at NWA. 22 hours of Educational CPE credit will be offered.

I will be giving a judges exam @ NWA on Friday 6/4, 7:30 PM. Please register through USAGymnastics by May 20th.

Reminder at our state judges meeting 7:15-8:30 Sunday, June 6th Jan, Barb and Laurel will be updating our judges directory and collecting your 2009-2010 CPE form.

CPE must be completed by June 30th, 2010.
Delay in completing your CPE does affect your ability to be assigned meets. Fall assigning will begin the first of September. To be assigned you must be current in each of the five categories: CPE (approved), Pro Membership, Safety, Background Check & NAWGJ. Jan monitor's all this information. When you renew, etc. please e-mail or send Jan a copy of your membership card. Betty Sroufe send's out a quarterly list of all NAWGJ Members. Jan and I use this list for verification, but it would be great if you verified with Jan and I when you do renew, just as a double check. Additionally if your personal information changes at any time: address, cell, e-mail, etc. it must be sent to: Jan, Barb and I. If your address changes you must personally notify the USAG Office and Betty Sroufe we do to do that.

Gym East is hosting a training session for all Western and National competitor's Friday, April 23rd 4:00 to 8:00. If you are interested in observing and watching higher level skills you are welcome to attend. It is free and it counts towards volunteer CPE credits.

That's it for now. Hope to see you at our state clinic. Nola

Subj: Optional Update
Hi Judges,
Each year before state I try to summarize the main points that have come up during the season. This is what I sent out to the coaches today, plus some other items (not included in this e-mail) regarding state and regionals. I'm sending this along to each of you so you are aware of different questions that have been brought up regarding optionals this year. The following information is not new! I know you know it - just sharing - gymnastics as you well know is a never ending sport of change - rules/information that seems common to us is not always common to others. If you have situations that you feel should be clarified before the compulsory state meets, please send them to me and I will follow up with an e-mail to the coaches prior to those state meets.
Thank you for all you do for Washington State Gymnastics. Enjoy your weekend. Nola

Bars
Level 7: Two B's are required Two 360 degree circling skills, they may be the same or different, one must be of B value and one must be from group 3.6.7
* If the hand shift of the clear hip is late and any part of the gymnast body is below horizontal it is evaluated as an A value part. Clear hips do not have to be a B to meet 3.6.7 requirement they may be an A, B or a C.
* A 45 degree cast is required, but it is not a value part unless the cast is at 20 degrees from vertical then it receives B VP. The straddle casts are evaluated at the closure of the legs and lowest part of the body, if legs close below 45 degree or any part of the body is below 45 degrees it will not meet the SR cast. Remember the height of the cast is evaluated at the peak of cast with legs together. If all casts are below 45 degree's, a deduction of .5 for SR, plus 0.25-0.30 for insufficient amplitude of each cast.
* There is no A value part cast in the code.

Beam
* A dance series is not required in level 7, that is a composition deduction and only applies to level 8-10 routines.
* Time for Level 7 beam is 1:20 not 1:30
* Look over A mounts in the code. The level 6 mount is not an A, the variation of it is 1.102. There is no deduction for not having a value part mount, but you must be sure you have enough elements if your mount does not have a listed value part. If you are doing a mount that you feel should be at least an A and it is not in the code you must submit it to Linda Mulvihill for evaluation. Keep a copy of the evaluation for the judges.
* Level 7 series: If you are doing a handstand as part of your acro series on beam the handstand must be held for two seconds, it maybe held in a split position. If the handstand is not held for two seconds than it receives no value part and therefore no series and your routines SV maybe a 9.4 (.5 missing SR and .1 missing A value part.)

Floor
* Please time your floor music. Time from start of your gymnasts first movement to her last movement and end of music. Several routines this season have gotten OT deductions. Floor will be timed at state.
* If your gymnasts is doing a turn with leg at horizontal to meet the B turn requirement in Level 8-10 make sure it meets the code definition of a B turn. 2.104

Subj: Judges Compensation

Hi Judges,
Just another reminder that mileage is now $.50 a mile.
I know this usually comes up so I wanted to clarify travel expenses.
When determining mileage and travel expenses please apply the following: Page 72 R & P

Mileage:
1. Count total roundtrip mileage then subtract 30 miles. You are paid $.50 per mile after 30 miles.
2. Carpooling if you are the driver you do not have to deduct 30 miles. Rider fee's are not paid.
3. If you are the rider in the carpool you figure your mileage to the carpool and subtract 30 miles - you are then paid mileage for the miles over 30. ( Riders are paid exactly the same way as if you drove without meeting a carpool.)
4. It is your responsibility to make every effort to carpool if you do not carpool the MR has a right to not honor your mileage unless you made prior arrangements with the meet director and the contracting official.
5. Flying vs. driving, etc.: You are to figure the least expensive way to travel to the competition. Many times flying is cheaper than driving. The Meet Director is only obligated to pay the least expensive way, if it was cheaper to fly and you choose to drive, take the bus or the train the Meet Director is only required to pay what it would have cost to fly.
6. If you are flying and you need to check your bag you may charge the cost of one checked bag, plus parking.
7. For competition over two days:
A. Overnight accommodations are not necessary: RT mileage will be paid for each day: however, no
mileage will be paid for the first 30 miles of each day's drive (except for carpool as stated above)
B. If lodging is provided to the judges by the Meet Director: if a judge chooses to return home and drive
back the second and successive days, RT mileage will be paid only once, unless pre-arrangements have
been made with the contracting official and Meet Director.
8. Meals / food is not required unless on site a min. of 3 hours. Time begins with reporting time to include meetings and competition. If food is not provided you may charge $15.00 per diem when your on site responsibilities are at least 3 hours but less than 8 hours. If your on site responsibilities are 8 hours or more $15.00 per meal (up to max. of $30.00 per day) is assessed for any meals not provided by the Meet Director.
Overnight: all meals not provided by the Meet Director are compensated at a rate of $15.00 per meal with a maximum of $40.00 per day. Judges with dietary restrictions should bring their own food. Meals provided by the Meet Director should be nutritional and not just concession type food.

Thank you in advance for your professionalism in following these R & P rules.
Have a great fun season. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

Carpooling
It is important that everyone makes every effort to carpool, we need to try our best to keep mileage expenses down for all clubs.

There has been some confusion regarding two-day meets, please note the following rules. If you feel you have not charged mileage correctly you may wish to reimburse those clubs.
Club addresses are on the USAG WA web site.
Thank you, Nola

Clarification:
Pg. 72 R & P

NO mileage will be paid for the first 30 miles except to those individuals who are carpooling, wherein there would be no deduction of 30 miles. In order for the rider to be paid mileage, he/she must drive a minimum of 30 miles round trip to meet the carpool.
It is requested that judges consider carpooling whenever possible. If a judge chooses not to carpool for any reason, mileage will not be paid to that judge unless prearranged with the contracting official and the Meet Director.
For competitions that span over two or more days and:
1. Overnight accommodations are not necessary:
Round-trip mileage will be paid for each; however, no mileage will be paid for the first miles of EACH day's drive (exception would be if you are carpooling).
2. Lodging is provided to the judges by the MD

If a judge chooses to return home and drive back the second and successive days, round-trip mileage will be paid only once, unless pre-arrangements have been made with the contracting official and the MD.

SJD Application

September 24, 2007: Important clarification for new judges regarding CPE:

Whatever rating you held had as of August 1, 2006 determines the number of CPE credits you need to submit by June of 2007. If you had no rating as of 8/1/06, you are not required to submit CPE’s until June of 2008 (based on the rating you have as of 8/1/2007). CPE reports are due in June so that the CPE coordinator Laurel Tindall can submit their lists to USAG by July/August.

If you tested Dec. 2006 you have until June 2008 to complete your CPE and you will be eligible to be assigned meets through spring 2008.  Disregard any previous interpretations regarding CPE.

Sept. 21, 2008

Hi Judges,
2007 - 2008 Calendar. The following will satisfy at least one of the CPE requirements. If you plan to attend make sure you download the proper CPE forms. Hi Judges,
Great news, our new web site changes have been completed! Huge thanks to Lee and everyone involved in the developing NAWGJ WA's "new look." I think it is GREAT! Obviously this is a change and it will take some time for everyone to adapt to the new system, it is important for personal privacy reason's that our state web site was updated. Please be patient with the new system.

All meet information is easily accessible.
Meets which you have been assigned are posted under your name, just click Judges Login: sign in - name and password. Click on meet number and your meet information immediately comes up. The information is identical to the what we have posted in the past. When Jan and Barb are notified by the club of changes they will print changes in red. As in the past please note the judges assigned for carpooling. If you wish to view the entire club meet schedule just click on http://www.nawgjwa.com/meet_schedule.html

If you have not registered on our new web site please do so as soon as possible.
Please note the following.
Judges Responsibility: Before a judge may be considered for a judging assignment they must be active / current with the following. USAG Pro number, Safety Certification, CPE (continuing professional education, Laurel Tindall coordinator), and NAWGJ. You also must respond in a timely manner to our assigners Jan and Barb when they send out availability requests.

USAG Board selects all state meet judges. NAWGJ WA is only the assigning agent for WA state meets.

Best wishes throughout the season and if you have any questions please do not hesitate contacting me.

September 4
Hi Judges:
Log In Update: NAWGJ WA Web Site

On the new www.nawgjwa.com site, under Judges Login, you will now be able to create a password and gain access to the judges directory. You will not be able to access the meet schedule for a few more days. We will let you know when that part is finished.

Step One: To log in, type in your name: Your normal first and last name, with a space between the two. (The name field is NOT case sensitive, you do not have to use capitals.) Ex: Judy Denny: you are Judy, not Judith.
Kathy Crawford: you are not Mary Kathryn - just Kathy!)
If there is an issue, email Lee right away at L.BJELLA@VERIZON.NET

Step Two: Type in nawgjwa.com where it asks for the "old password".

Step Three: Type in a simple password - please do not forget it! You might want to write it down.

Step Four: Log back - Once you register you will then log back in - type your name and password that will give you access to the judges directory. Check your personal data on the directory. Please notify Lee if it is incorrect. Personal meet assignments information is coming...

Step Five: Don't forget to log back out.

Additional Information: In the judges directory, at the top, click on one of the headings, and your list will be regenerated by the order specified. For instance, if you click on the word "Section", it will sort all of the judges by the section they live in. You can sort them by rating as well.

For your protection please keep your password confidential!

Thank you for your patience. Reminder this is a new system / procedure, fine tuning will be continuous!

August 25, 2007

Hi Judges, Update on the new season.

1. Calendar: Super Camp Oct. 13/14 Naydenov's, Oct. 19-21 Regional Congress Spokane Red Lion River Front by Convention Center, Nov. 3/4 Super Camp 2 (Seattle area Site TBA), Nov. 10/11 High Tec AGC. Safety cert: Regional Congress Friday afternoon. Judging Certification: TBA

2. Please download the new pay scale. MR's this is especially important - you might make two copies just to be safe.

3. Contracts: You will be sent by Jan and Barb one or several e-mail contract(s) which lists your fall and spring meet assignments. (Depending on how Jan and Barb wish to assign meets you might receive several contracts.) As a WA judge you must accept a contract with NAWGJ WA for all meets which you have agreed to judge. Contracts are required, they are a binding legal agreement and maintains your insurance coverage for that meet(s). If you are added to a meet the last minute assume you will be asked to return a contract ASAP to the assigner to cover any possible insurance issues. Our assigners will contact the club regarding the officials they can expect for their meet with the understanding that last minute changes might occur. All state meet contracts will be individualized. Note return date and respond immediately to all contracts.

4. NAWGJ WA Critique Meet assignments since 01 have been based on the following criteria: USAG WA state meet judges selection, travel, carpooling, experience, etc. One of the main goals of NAWGJ is education and the board voted this past spring to further our state education by having judges/clinician Tom Koll, Connie Maloney, and Sue Graff come to WA. Tom will be coming to WA Oct. 27th and 28th for our Candy Corn Classic compulsory meet. Connie and Sue will coming Dec. 14-16 as judges for our Holiday Express Meet. Both of these critique meets are sanctioned and will count towards educational CPE credit for those of you not assigned to the judging panels. I hope each of you mark these two dates on your calendar. We are excited about this opportunity for our state and I look forward to seeing you at our two critiques.

5. NAWGJ WA Web Site: For privacy protection reasons we are in the process of revising the NAWGJ WA web site, mainly the master judging schedule and judges directory. If you wish further explanation regarding the need for this change please call me: 360-920-6259. Our state's competition schedule judging assignments will no longer be posted on our web site for everyone in the Internet World to see.

Regarding assigning: Jan and Barb will be learning a new web system. The process was started in July. We have been working with an IT specialist. Jan and Barb's hands are tied until the web update has been finalized. Being an assigner is not easy and once the new system is up / running and we are confident it is working correctly, I will be sending out the procedure for each of you to access your meet information. In summary, the entire meet schedule format on our NAWGJ WA web site will be revised. Presently I do not have a completion timeline. However the 07-08 meet schedule will be posted on the web site for everyone's information. Please look at the schedule and if you know you will be in a location outside your normal assigning area notify Barb or Jan so they have the option of assigning you to that meet.

Important: Judges we must keep a copy of our e-mail assignments! Jan and Barb will be e-mailing each of us updates, etc., and as soon the change to the web site is completed we will be able to access our personal meet information from http://www.nawgjwa.com/.

It is important that as the state assigning agent we adhere to all recommendations from the national office. Privacy is a national concern.

Huge thanks to Lee who has spent hours working with the IT specialist.

I am very excited about the change. Let's keep good records of our meets and we should proceed easily into the up coming season.

6. Reminder R&P states before you can be assigned this season your 06-07 CPE must be filed with our state CPE coordinator Laurel Tindall; additionally, each of the following must be current Pro, Safety and your NAWGJ membership. As you renew throughout the season, please send me your renewals and I will forward them to our assignors and update your data. I recommend that you renew your USAG membership one month prior to expiration so you will be sure to stay current - renewal will take longer due to background checks. Pro members whose membership has expired will not be able to renew at meet sites; therefore, if anyone is not current they will not be allowed on the competition floor.

As the 07-08 season approaches thank you in advance for your dedication to Washington Gymnastics and best wishes throughout the season. Please do not hesitate contacting your rep or give me a call/e-mail if you have any questions.

July 17, 2007
Just a reminder before you can be assigned to judge any competitions for the new season, USAG and NAWGJ requires that your memberships are current. USAG Pro membership, safety certification, NAWGJ, and as required by the national office your CPE. CPE must be completed and sent to Laurel annually by 6/30. Laurel Tindall is the appointed USAG chairman for CPE. CPE is not through NAWGJ, it is governed and required by USAG.

Please let me know when you renew any of your memberships and I will update our judges directory which Barb and Jan use for assigning. It is very important that each of us stays current with each of the four requirements. These requirements maintain our eligibility to be assigned to meets. Any sanctioned education or training camp may be used for educational CPE. Our two judges critiques meets (Oct. 27/28 and Dec. 14-16) since we are bringing in national judges qualify for educational CPE.

If you are short hours the summer is always a great time to swing into gym's to pick up miscellaneous CPE credits, just be sure to have printed off a CPE form for the club coaches signature.

I hope you are enjoying these beautiful summer days and if you have any questions please do not hesitate contacting me.
